Choose your adventure
Living a life by my own rules means living an adventure. For me that is hiking, biking, camping, spending time with family and friends and so much more. Adventure can look different for different people. If you continue to follow me and read what I have to say, you will see that I often talk about living an adventure. On that topic, you are the only one who can decide what your adventure is supposed to look like and what an adventure is to you. I will share my adventures and tips, but take what I share and make it your own so it fits your vision for your life.
I have shared before that I used to live my life waiting. I'm still not completely sure what I was waiting for, but it never arrived. Well, at least I don't think it arrived because I don't feel like I ever arrived anywhere if that makes sense. Since all that waiting, I definitely live my life different. I no longer and will not start waiting to live again. I do my best to seize the moment and enjoy. Quite a few years ago I had read a book about being more present in life now and not being so focused on everything being perfect.
If you come to my house, it is not perfectly clean. We have 4 kids and a dog. One day my house will be spotless, but that means my house will be pretty empty. I choose to love that I have a house full of love, chaos, noise and sometimes mess. We have fun. We laugh. We make memories. We work hard to live a life teaching our kids to have experiences and adventures over stuff. We don't always succeed in this, but we try.
My adventure is having a career that allows me to travel, spend time with my kids and husband and do something I love. It is being active with my family and friends. Each day I define my adventure and my success a little more which is part of the beauty of writing our own story/adventure. We don't have to figure it all out right away. We can make it up as we go. Now don't get me wrong, I do have a plan, but it I change it if and when I need to.
I am currently in a season of working to flesh out how to reach some of my goals. My plan has had to change a bit after a season of being unwell. At first this season was extremely difficult for me. I had a lot of anger and pain, but now I am embracing this is part of choosing my adventure. Life isn't always going to go how we want it go, but the curveballs can make it better if we let them. It took me awhile to change my frame of reference on this one and wrap my arms around it, but if I hadn't, my adventure would be less enjoyable. This was also part of choosing my adventure. Instead of looking at having to regain my health as a negative thing, I get to build it the way I want this time. I get to figure out which things work best for me and my family. I get to add and cut out the things that I choose. I share this piece because I know many of us have had to change perception over the last couple of years. It doesn't always have to be a bad thing.
Today's challenge: get a notebook and start a brain dump on what your adventure could look like, make sure to put any idea that comes to mind, you can always prioritize and choose the items you really want to keep as a part of your adventure later. The important part for now is to start dreaming about the life you want for yourself and your loved ones. If you feel comfortable, comment or email me the things you add to your brain dump or a picture of your brain dump (thejourneytolivingwell@gmail.com). Let's build our adventures together!
